This popular spot is repeatedly voted Fernie’s favourite restaurant, and as soon as you walk in the door, you’ll see why. Warm and welcoming, with local artwork on the walls and a contemporary, minimalist feel.
The food is fresh, varied and beautifully presented. Local recommendations include the gomae salad, tuna tataki, sashimi carpaccio and scallop chop chop. A full range of hot appetizers includes gyoza, miso soup, tempura, karaage and warm teriyaki salads. The sushi bar offers prime sashimi and made to order sushi rolls including the famous ‘Fernie Roll’ or giant dragon roll, old favourites like the California roll or salmon skin roll, or new fusion creations including the curry roll, kryptonite roll or tempura roll.
Enjoy drinks at the sake bar or in the lounge space, then dine at the sushi bar or in the main restaurant or request a private tatami room for a more intimate dining experience. Group dining, intimate couples rooms or come on your own. Yamagoya is perfect for all occasions.

At an Italian table, food and bread are inseparable. People start a meal by nibbling on fresh bread, they use it to wipe a pasta plate clean of a tasty sauce, mop up the juices of a meat dish or soak up a delicious salad dressing.

The Dinner Menu at Loaf is a marriage of what Loaf loves best – real, honest, freshly-made, Italian-inspired food. Loaf’s Italian-style pizza dough is handmade and topped with fresh cheese, vegetables and meat – no wonder Loaf’s pizza was voted Fernie’s best pizza in the Best of Fernie awards. Like all Loaf’s products, the pizza dough only contains the core ingredients of flour, water, salt, yeast and olive oil – definitely no artificial preservatives or additives. Pizza dough is nut and dairy-free and pizzas can be prepared to suit many diets and allergy restrictions.
Winter Fondue
The Loaf’s delicious winter fondue is a great way to warm up in the snowy months.
Available Thursdays and Sundays from November – March; reservations required.

About Loaf
After visiting Fernie in 2003 from London, England, Phil & Claire Gadd fell in love with the area and looked for ways to stay and raise a family. In the summer of 2009, the couple moved to Fernie permanently and In less than three months they fitted out new premises on 6th Ave, sourced equipment, got their core team together, and opened the doors.
Loaf Bakery had an incredible, hectic first year of business and was voted Fernie’s ‘New Business of the Year’ in 2010 by the Chamber of Commerce. Originally started as a great little neighbourhood bakery offering a range of artisan bread and pastries prepared from scratch using all-natural ingredients, Loaf has transformed over the years and moved locations to Fernie’s Historic Downtown where it is a highlight on the culinary scene offering gourmet Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.

How To Get Here In Summer
Island Lake Lodge is in a private wilderness setting only 14km from Fernie and easily accessible in summer via Mt Fernie Provincial Park Road. Look for the large “Island Lake Lodge” sign on HWY 3 between town and Fernie Alpine Resort turn-off. The access road is rugged, please allow yourself approx. 20 minutes to drive up.
